Collaborative Innovation in Action

During October and November I ran three BOLT Asset Management Hackathons in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

I created the BOLT Asset Management Hackathons as an opportunity for asset managers in high risk environments to explore innovative ideas in a low consequence setting.

Nine teams participated in three 12 hour events where they collaborated as interdisciplinary teams on real world challenges faced by asset managers.

Ideas the teams worked on included:

  • A data integration platform for the energy industry

  • A decision making tool for repair/replace decisions in major infrastructure

  • Mill modifications to optimise ramp rates in a power generation plant

  • A 'human integration' program to improve productivity in a steel mill

  • An application of asset management principles to human resources to improve employee retention

  • Improved maintenance workflow in a unique facilities setting

  • A program to introduce asset management approaches into a first-responder environment

  • A model for improved management of intangible assets

  • An integrated approach to stakeholder management for the 'internal sell' on asset management

I was so impressed with the ideas the teams were able to produce in just one day. These outcomes were guided by a well-defined and facilitated BOLT process to ensure teams stayed on track throughout the day.

I'll be running another series of BOLT Hackathons in 2019. Look out for the program release early in the New Year.
