Have You Topped-Up Your Oil Lately?

Do you remember the last time you bought a car? Did it come with oil already in the engine? Did you think that you'd never have to worry about oil again, because that had been 'done'? Probably not! Engine lubrication is not a one-off activity. We know we need to top-up the oil or the engine will seize up.

It's the same with stakeholder engagement. It's not a one-off activity. Yet, when I'm working with asset management teams I often hear them say that they've 'done' stakeholder engagement. There's a sense that that was something they had to tick off and they don't need to do it again. It's talked about in the past tense.

Like oil in your car, stakeholder engagement has to be always present, or the good work you've already done will seize-up. The value you've promised won't be delivered if all the parts don't move smoothly together.

What are you doing each day to engage your stakeholders? How do you keep the connections warm and positive?
