mastery requires reflection
Over the past year we've become accustomed to retreating behind closed doors, sometimes by choice and sometimes by decree. We've spent more time away from society than many of us would probably prefer.
This enforced retreat has been for our own health and for the safety of the community, but there's little sense of rest in it. Instead, there can be fear and uncertainty, and a continual dread at what might come next.
Deliberate retreat, though, is a useful practice. Time away from our usual work activities, housekeeping, and other chores that can easily fill our days and rob us of productivity. It's easy to be busy, and easy to get caught up in the day-to-day hustle and bustle.
Taking time out for rest and reflection is valuable to our mind and body and can help us to become more focused on the work ahead. This past weekend I spend two days in retreat with some of my support team. It was a valuable time to reflect on goals, revise practices and make plans for the months ahead.
