Season’s Greetings

After what has been a tough year all round, there's something comforting about the familiar traditions of Christmas. Even though kids can't sit on Santa's knee and there'll be no Christmas buffet, people are making every effort to spread what joy they can, if only to help things feel a tiny bit 'normal'.

This week we took our annual tour of neighbourhood light displays and had the chance to chat with some of those who do the decorating. Several people we spoke to had spent more than a month festooning their house and surrounding property with festive glow. These hours and weeks of work are unrewarded by money, or prizes, or acclaim. They do it simply for the joy of spreading joy.

Whether it's the smile of wonder on the face of a child as they glimpse a glowing angel atop a tree, or the laughter at the incongruous notion of a winter clad Santa on a tropical beach, there are moments that capture that joy.

Thank you for your support during this year. It's been wonderful to stay connected. I wish you and your loved ones a joyful Christmas and I look forward to sharing the journey beyond 2020, as we welcome the New Year.
