Email is not engagement

I recently had the pleasure of joining Diego Klappenbach of UMS Group Scandinavia in conversation on his Strategic Asset Management podcast. We talked about the importance of engaging the whole organisation in asset management and emphasised that email is not engagement. Sending an email 'over the fence' and hoping someone will take action is rarely effective.

Engagement needs to be synchronous, rather than asynchronous. There must be live dialogue, not disconnected messages going back and forth. Email is useful where documents need to be exchanged and edits need to be made, but to pretend that email is engagement is like pretending that plastic fruit is edible. It may look good, but it won't do the job.

Engagement needs to start right at the beginning of your asset management journey. Once you've begun, it's not enough to tick a box and say it's done.

Stakeholder engagement is never 'done'.
